Width of sampling volumes versus depth and attenuation

The curves below show the width of the sampling volume, measured @ -6dB (on the left graph), and the attenuation (on the right graph) for our standard transducers.

These measurements has been obtained with our DOP2000 Model 2125 Ultrasonic Doppler Velocimeter , in clear water (tap water).

Note : the measured widths differ from their theoretical values due to the fact that they are issued from the measurement of the intensity of an echo generated by a small sphere and not from the measurement of the acoustic pressure that appears at particular points inside the ultrasonic field.
